Hey Everyone, It's Sarah Winchell from Teaching Resources for the Classroom. Soon my blog will be Science is for Kids! I am starting a new job this fall as the Science Specialist for our school. I am happy happy!! My blog will be gradually undergoing a make-over this summer. Either web address will get you there! I will be working with kinders through fifth graders doing science instruction. I plan to fill my blog with ideas for teaching science and integrating it into the curriculum. There will be a lot of videos so get ready!!! I can be a little crazy....in good way.

All teachers know we are still learning in the summer! This week I have been attending an Engineering is Elementary workshop. I am experiencing the curriculum with teachers from my school, teachers from another local school and student teachers. I love teachers and student teachers! We are having so much fun learning about the curriculum and working together. Our workshop is at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in the beautiful new School of Education.

We are beginning to think like engineers! We are testing ideas ~ putting on our teacher hats and then our student hats. Engineering is a wide open field for children today. It is really about perseverance and seeing failure as an opportunity for growth. So much of our education today is lock step where failure is not a learning process but a final determination of proficiency. We need to help children learn that failure can be part of learning. I will be writing more about Engineering is Elementary at Science is for Kids! I will share throughout the year as the grade levels at our school work through their kits. I will also share ideas for simple quick ways to integrate engineering in your classroom.

Our teachers showed us an incredible video and I think it is worth seeing. This video is for meant for teachers. Take a look to see how these college students dealt with a challenge from their professor!
