Pumpkins in Primary

23 October 2015 / Leave a Comment

Pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins...seems they have taken over the land.  There is so much fun to be had with pumpkins in the classroom and I am always looking for new and fun ideas to incorporate them into the classroom.  Here are a few of my favorites.

This is particular project I found on Artsonia few years back.  The end results were even better than I had imagined.  This is a multi-day project, as you will need to give the white glue time to dry before you can ink and watercolor, but it was so worth it!
Here is the Artsonia link to this project: Pumpkink  You can read a little bit more about my blog if you aren't already familiar.

Here is another pumpkin project from  Artsonia that also has spectacular results and takes a little less time to complete.

I have used both of these art projects to compliment my unit study on the picture book Too Many Pumpkins by Linda White.  I LOVE this book.  Everything from the plot, to the rich vocabulary, the illustrations, and the message.  If you are looking for ways to extend this wonderful story into your literacy time this unit includes comprehension questions, vocabulary puzzles, adjective and verb sorts, and more!

What I love about these projects along with the Too Many Pumpkins Unit is that you can carry these over into November as they are not strictly Halloween focused.

I'll leave you with a few treats as we head into the week before Halloween.  Download these free Halloween printable bookmarks to give to your students to celebrate!  You can also find more great ideas for Fall on my Halloween Fun Pinterest Board.
