READ A GOOD BOOK

I pretty much never have time to read. Well, to be honest, I probably just don't MAKE the time to read unless it's related to what I need to be teaching. (Or a random "news" story on Facebook!) But I really enjoy reading. Especially just for pleasure. And whether you are flying away to a tropical location or just curling up on the couch under a cozy blanket - reading a book is an excellent way to "get lost in another world". Need a couple ideas of where to start? Um, me too...

I have a few favorite authors, but when I've exhausted all of their latest released novels, I begin to struggle. Pinterest to the rescue! I actually searched "books for people who love Jodi Picoult" and came across this post on the BookBub Blog. And guess what!?! They have a whole selection of FREE eBooks that you can download! Talk about amazing!

FAMILY GAME NIGHT

Since I have kids, I think I lean more toward games like Monopoly, Uno, and Twister. But I've had a great time at game night events hosted by friends where we played Euchre, Apples to Apples, and Outburst. Why not throw your own game night? Invite another family to join in on the fun. Or get a group of friends or even a few couples together. It's entirely up to you. My oldest son once threw a Halloween party where he and his friends played Poker, but the bets were all pieces of candy. So much fun! Too much to do? Work a game into your errands by playing Pokemon Go while you shop. My kids caught a surprising number of Pokemon while we were at Sam's Club the other day!

CREATE SOMETHING

And try really hard to keep from creating something for the classroom. Is there some DIY project you've been dying to attempt? Have a room in your house that you really want to update and turn into a more usable space? Do you crochet, knit, paint, sew, or draw? Let your creative juices flow. I for one will be spending a bunch of time at The Pottery Room - a little paint your own pottery studio in town. Just focusing on something artistic and non-school related will be a stress relief in and of itself.

TRY AN OLD (OR NEWER) SERIES ON NETFLIX

This is almost a no-brainer, really. As teachers we rarely have time (or the energy) to watch much television. My husband actually uses the DVR to record so many shows that he thinks I will like that our storage space is almost completely used up! And yet - sometimes I just want to be able to watch episode after episode after episode. A couple of my favorites are Switched at Birth, Hart and Dixie, Gilmore Girls, and Army Wives. Yeah, they are obviously similar. But that tricky Netflix app keeps suggesting shows based on my viewing history. Ha!

TAKE A NAP

Seriously. Schedule it. Enforce it. Don't skip it. Make up for all the days you came home exhausted from school and WANTED to take a nap but didn't because you felt the need to focus on school work or house work. Cuddle up with your kids or your puppy.

Take advantage of the time you have. Maybe not every day. Or every day. Why not? But DO IT. Rest your weary body. You deserve a break!
